Besides turning out very high quality deer head and shoulder mounts, Trophy Specialists Taxidermy also specializes in fixing antlers. It's very common for deer to break off points, tines and even main beams. They are often very rough on their antlers when rubbing on trees, fighting with other deer or when just running through the woods. We fix dozens of antlers every year for customers that want their trophy to look like it did when it was in it's prime. Repairs are done with modern resins that can be sculpted into nearly any shape or size of repair. The repairs are textured and colored so realistically that you will likely not be able to tell where the repairs were done. In many cases, customers forgot what repaired points were broken when the picked up the mounts and could not distinguish the real McCoy from the repairs. We have several examples of this high specialized service in our studio for you to inspect. When shown a repaired rack on the wall here, nobody has ever guessed which points are repaired. We mainly offer this service to customers getting head and shoulder mounts with us and are pricing for these customers is fairly cheap. If you just want to get a rack repaired though without having us do a head mount, then we can do that, but the price is higher.
If done with a high quality should mount, we repair tines at $50 for the first point, and then $30 for each additional point repaired. The pricing is double for stand alone, antler repair jobs done without a high quality should mount. A quote will be provided on main beam repairs or for total rack reconstruction.
We also do extensive main beam repair jobs too. We have done several jobs where a complete antler was missing and we recreated the missing antler so that it could not be distinguished from the other original side. We have even done jobs where the complete rack was recreated after being stolen or destroyed in a fire. We have done insurance work many times. These types of main beam reconstructions and rack recreations are quoted on an individual basis.
Here's a set of antlers that had four points and tines repaired. Can you
guess which ones were repaired?
